SUMMARY:GCRW November 2023
DESCRIPTION:Join us to hear Bunni Pounds\, Founder & President of Christians Engaged for our November meeting. \nBunni Pounds is the President of Christians Engaged. This national nonpartisan ministry awakens\, educates\, and empowers believers in Jesus Christ: to pray for their nation and elected officials regularly\, to vote in every election to impact their culture\, and to engage their hearts in some form of civic education or engagement for the wellbeing of America. \nIn just three years – the Christians Engaged team served over 125 churches\, built the only 501(c)3 voter mobilization system for the Body of Christ in all 50 states and produced five major curriculum projects to activate the Church – On-Ramp to Civic Engagement\, Salt & Light: How to Impact our Local Communities\, Austin 101 (for the state of Texas)\, Nehemiah: How to Rebuild the Walls of a Nation\, and Biblical Justice: Answers for Difficult Days. They have also produced tons of free content in the form of articles\, prayer calls\, and a weekly show “Conversations with Christians Engaged” to educate the Body of Christ on the importance of their biblical call to America. Their goal is to mobilize 1 million Christians by the 2024 general election to pray\, vote\, and engage regularly. \nOn May 18\, 2021\, after 18 months of operation – Christians Engaged was denied by the IRS their 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status because the IRS noted in writing – “biblical teachings” are “typically affiliated with the Republican Party.” Bunni appealed this decision for not only Christians Engaged but all Christian organizations that this would affect in the nation. With the help of First Liberty Institute\, they won a reversal in 21 days after 3 Fox News appearances\, a letter from Members of Congress\, and huge national attention on the case. \nAs a political consultant by profession – Bunni spent over sixteen years running the campaigns of Members of Congress around Texas. She started her career as the campaign manager for U.S. Congressman Jeb Hensarling then launched her own firm\, Bunni Pounds & Associates building a top Texas consulting firm with nine associates and thirty-one clients. \nHer life radically changed in 2018 – when out of the blue – Bunni felt called to run for her former bosses’ seat for Congress. In the end – she made it through a field of eight primary candidates into the Republican Primary runoff but came up slightly short. During the 2018 primary season\, she raised more money than any GOP open seat candidate in the State of Texas\, became the only person in the entire United States who gained the endorsement of Vice President Mike Pence\, and out of 46 candidates became the only Texas Republican woman to make the runoff election. \nBunni’s experience doesn’t just stop at politics. She has been bi-vocational and active in Christian ministry since she was 16. Bunni is a Bible teacher and motivational speaker who has authored 8 books\, published worship songs\, and church-planted with her husband Tim for over 10 years. Speaking to the church and the culture\, she is a regular contributor to The Stream and has also been published in the Wall Street Journal\, Christian Post\, and Charisma Magazine among others. \nShe has a Bachelor of Arts & Sciences degree in Political Science from Dallas Baptist University and an associate degree in theology from Christ for the Nations Institute in Dallas. \nMarried for 27 years to Tim Pounds\, they have 2 young adult sons\, Israel and Ben\, two daughters-in-law\, and a new grandbaby. \nBunni loves to motivate people to pray\, vote\, and engage their hearts to impact America and the world. She believes that people are called to walk in intimacy with Jesus and be salt and light to a dying world. \n\nNovember 2\nCottonwood Creek Church\nAllen\, TX\nDoors open at 6:00pm \n\n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:GCRW April 2023 Mtg
DESCRIPTION:GCRW welcomes Sid Miller\, the 12th Commissioner of the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA). He has devoted his life to promoting Texas agriculture\, rural communities and the great state of Texas. \nAn eighth-generation farmer and rancher\, Sid Miller has devoted his life to promoting Texas agriculture\, rural communities and the great state of Texas.  Commissioner Miller is also a businessman who breeds and trains American Quarter Horses. In his spare time\, he is a recognized rodeo cowboy who holds 20 world championship titles. \n\nApril 6\n6:00-8:00pm \n\nCottonwood Creek Church in Allen\n1015 Sam Rayburn Tollway\nAllen\, 75013 \n\nAbout Sid Miller: \nBorn in De Leon\, in Comanche County\, in September 1955\, Sid Miller graduated with honors from Tarleton State University in Stephenville with a Bachelor of Science degree in Vocational Ag Education. \nA recognized community leader\, Miller was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2000. He quickly earned a reputation as a staunch defender of Texas agriculture\, constitutional freedoms and individual liberties for all Texans. \nHe was elected statewide as the 12th Texas Agriculture Commissioner in 2014 and re-elected to his second term in office in 2018. \nSince taking office as Agriculture Commissioner\, Commissioner Miller has brought real\, common sense reform to TDA. Within six months in office\, he eliminated a two-and-a-half-year backlog in organic certifications. He reshaped field operations to maximize efficiency for Texas taxpayers. This included increasing the number of consumer protection inspections by as much as 183 percent while slashing the miles traveled by TDA inspectors by more than half a million miles a year. \nCommissioner Miller also launched Operation Maverick\, a consumer protection initiative to round up businesses which failed to register their commercial scales with TDA. Registrations have increased 35 percent\, and more than 2\,000 previously unregistered businesses are now monitored by TDA to ensure consumers are protected. \nA former ag teacher and school board member\, Commissioner Miller is committed to fighting childhood obesity and promoting healthy lifestyles for Texas schoolchildren. His creation of Farm Fresh Fridays and other farm-to-school initiatives resulted in a $14 million increase in the amount of Texas products purchased by schools. Commissioner Miller is also passionate about ensuring rural communities have the water and infrastructure they need to thrive. To that end\, he created TDA’s Office of Water to ensure all Texans have access to clean water for today and future generations. Additionally\, under his guidance\, TDA has directed hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding through the Texas Community Development Block Grant program to local communities for infrastructure improvements and repairs. \nCommissioner Miller is the state’s leading advocate around the world for Texas agriculture\, Texas-grown products and Texas-owned businesses. He oversees TDA’s world-renowned GO TEXAN program — a marketing effort to showcase the best products\, companies and communities that call the Lone Star State home. Since taking office\, Commissioner Miller’s passion to increase market exposure for Texas agriculture has led him and his staff to mount trade missions to Cuba\, Ecuador\, Argentina\, Israel\, China and every continent on the globe\, except Antarctica. \nCommissioner Miller is a businessman who breeds and trains American Quarter Horses. In his spare time\, he is a recognized rodeo cowboy who holds 12 world championship titles. \nHe and his wife\, Debra\, have been married for going on 40 years. They have two sons\, two daughters-in-law and five grandchildren. They are active members of the Cowboy Church of Erath County\, where Commissioner Miller also serves as an elder. \n
